ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AND ITS IMPACT ON GLOBAL HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PERSPECTIVE

Since the stone age human beings happened to face number of challenges in terms of innovation & invention. In the very early stage of civilization human learned to use instrument, gadgets, machine etc… to make the life easy. In the process of progression number of remarkable incidents took place in the history. Each occurrence contributed the humanity good and bad way and affected positive or negative way of the existence.

Industrial revolution is one of the most notable breakthrough where the labor intensive production was replaced by the machine intensive production, and to a great extent the giant work were able to be materialized by the machine but the human element in the equation of value addition was slowly getting away from the mainstream of the world.

Another breakthrough invention is the computer to the world in the age of our living time where we are experiencing a great influence of it in to many industries like medicine, engineering, manufacturing, service, factory flows, education, entertainment etc… name to few.

With the invention of robot the world has been experiencing another dimension on the business in large scale industries with fully automated systems and process leading to use cutting edge scientific advancements in a fully-fledged working environment in the sophisticated way.

All these inventions and new additions undoubtedly helped the humanity to witness a better world with convenient, easy and pleasant experience. But the fact we simply forget or refuse to accept is that the human being or the human resources management (HRM) is being continually challenged for its existence and survival. It’s very obvious that these innovations and inventions have changed structure of human population all over the world.

In the continuous and gradual steps we are in the time facing number of new arrivals to the sphere of human resources management which will have a direct or indirect and  positive or negative impact on the entire HRM arena. These can be listed below;

'Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a new science and technology which studies theories, mechanisms, developments and applications on how to simulate human intelligence via computerised robots, voice recognition, image recognition, natural language processes, expert systems and so on.' (Lili Li 2013).

Due to various human related natural limitations the modern world has been in search of resolving these issues namely, absenteeism, punctuality problem, less performance, under productivity, lack of motivation, defects in delivery, work related stress, sickness, accident at work, meeting deadlines, quality standard maintenance, inconsistency etc. management and the managers are willing to replace the functions of HRM as some are being outsourced in order to concentrate more effectively on core business of the organization.

This poses the questions that;
  • Will the HRM functions be fully replaced by the AI?
  • Won’t there be a HRM functional area in the organizational structure?
  • Will the human element be worthless in the long run of the organizations?
  • Will AI replace humans and create an inevitable worldwide unemployment crisis?

'Human Resources (HR) have been experiencing significant changes thanks to the evolution of information technologies in the last two decades. Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the way that companies manage their workforce and make HR plans, which increases productivity and employee engagement in general.' (Eva Wislow 2017).

On the other hand, it has already contributed to the overall management and the HRM division in number of ways to stream line the functions in the following manner;
